speaker wiring

Hey h240,
I got my head unit powered. I hooked up 2 pioneer 6.5 in the rear straight from the HU harness to the speaker with 18g radioshack wire to bypass factory amps. Sounds real good but id like some advice on a better brand wire and the gauge I should use for a little over 12ft of wire to each side. Well lets call it 15ft because Ill eventually be wiring in a 300w amp and a crossover. Even farther down the road ill be hooking up everything in the 2nd pic. Box getting fresh black carpet though

wire = wire

Copper is Copper. Monster brand copper does not have more copperish copper, it has copper...

Cu always equals Cu on the periodic table.

Get some inexpensive wire and just hookup the speakers. You will not be able to tell a difference between 26,22, 21,12,10, 9, 3, -2, -45342334 gauge wire, because its all copper!

I would argue this when an amp is involved, and for safety reasons, yes copper is copper, the electric current going through it is not always the same. You can always look for other threads in regards to the gauge you should be using according to your speakers, do it right, do it once.

for the most part this is true. But only half true. As someone who is extremely high standard for spl. Not all wires are created equal. That being said it doesn't have to be monster cable. But I swapped out a set of rca cables for jl audio ones and gained more db.
