Local differential installers
In accordance with the rules of the site, and to avoid any conflict, here is my personal unbiased review of the local shops I dealt with when trying to get my Tomei 2-way adjusted and re-shimmed. the problem i was having was a whining noise coming from the diff on deceleration. I believed the problem stemmed from the backlash in the ring and pinion. I dont have any affiliation with any of these shops and owe no allegiance to any of them. that being said, this is just an honest review for people to read if they are in the market for a differential installation place. This type of review would have been helpful to me when I was looking for a place to get this done, so maybe it will be useful to someone else.

I called 4 places
Houston Ring and Pinion
Engine Logics

CMS- Politely said they do not do that type of work. Kudos on the honesty.

Nevrslo- When i asked about a diff adjustment, the customer service rep answered me with "are you f'n kidding me? are you f'n with me?" he then proceeded on some half intelligible tirade about how the diff in their expedition had just blown up that weekend and how they were diff experts and they do diffs all the time. I made it very clear that I had a tomei 2-way that needed to be inspected and adjusted. They said if i took it out and brought it to them it would be $700.00 to $900.00 for an inspection and adjustment. needless to say, i continued my search.

Houston Ring & Pinion- Specializes in this type of work. This is like checking tire pressure for these guys. they quoted me $350.00, their standard price for diff adjustment if i take them the diff. I was ready to take it here, but i decided to try one more place for comparison.

Engine Logics- They said they could do it with no problem. They said I could bring the car, or the diff and it would be done in a few days. We discussed pricing and I was told that if there was no internal damage done, it would be a couple of hours of labor. If the r & p was already damaged, it would be more. I had an extra r & p in my garage so I decided to go with them. Dropped it off, picked it up a couple of days later. It had been thoroughly cleaned and sealed up correctly. I was told there was an issue with the gear engagement and that they adjusted it back to spec. if left alone, this would have probably destroyed my r&p. i installed the diff and its been in my car ever since. its quiet and completely un-noticable until you get on it and it locks. Great job, awesome to do business with.

How much did they charge you if you don't mind me asking.
My vlsd on my s14 is humming and I read the pinion is bad
And that I could you use one of an open diff.

I paid 300 but. I would give them a call and ask. It may vary from case to case
