View Full Version : So I found something out about my turbo..

For those that didn't see what happened to my turbo when I threw a rod, it cracked the compressor housing.. So I sent the turbo back to Precision to have the housing replaced because no shop in the area could figure out what the turbo was.. I bought the turbo as a t04e w/ a .50 trim.. Precision finally came back and said that the turbo was an obscure turbo that they built for tractors and it was a t04e 'super 50'.. I guess this is why my dyno graphs were so different from other people that were running a ka w/ a t04e .50 trim.. I found it pretty interesting.. Anybody have any opinions of the 'super 50'??

Precision replaced the housing for $125.. Not too shabby.. :)

Wow 50 trim? I once had a 54 trim. How were your dyno graphs different?

Basically others were coming in at full boost alot quicker than I was.. Like by 5 or 600rpm sooner than I was.. Setups were fairly equivalent, same turbo.. (well at the time we thought they were the same)

600rpm is a lot but not too bad. Did you ever consider getting a completely new compressor wheel with matching housing?

I do believe I mentioned this in your dyno thread.

If the wheel is large enough it will cause inefficient turbine side flow due to the shaft RPM being less than ideal. That's why turbos like the GT2540R spool slowly.

Nope, never considered it because once I destroyed the housing, I decided to fix it and then sell it to a friend of mine since I'm going with a bigger turbo for my new setup.. So that's what I did.. I'm surprised nobody picked up the t04.. I had it in my for sale threads for cheap.. Like $150 cheap..
